How Island Greens Started: From Basement Golf to Station Yards

In 2023 we were fresh out of college and neither of us had a job. I had gotten a cheap Rapsodo simulator for Christmas, and we spent that winter hitting into a tarp in my basement. Matt threw out the idea of starting our own business and building an indoor golf sim facility. I told him that was pretty stupid, since those places already exist. Ten months later we opened the doors of our first facility.

We built the first one ourselves

We built out most of Franklin Square ourselves: painting, building wall pads, and cutting turf. We opened in January 2025 with three bays. After getting on our feet, we rented the space next door and built out two more bays in November 2025.

The Island Greens Invitational

In 2025 we held the first Island Greens Invitational, and we are already looking ahead to the third annual event in June 2027. So far the outing has raised over $17,500 for the First Responders Children’s Foundation (opens in a new tab).

What we are building next

In 2026 we started work on our second location at Station Yards in Ronkonkoma. The thinking has not changed. We want a room that feels like it is yours while you are playing, with accurate numbers and swing video to help you get better.

Station Yards is 5,000+ square feet with TrackMan bays, a full bar, and augmented reality darts.

Franklin Square is where this started. Station Yards is where it is going. Bigger facility, better technology, same idea: give people golf that is worth their time.
